Deadwooding in Murray, KY

Dead limbs taken out of the crown before the wind drops them on the roof, the car or the kids.

Deadwooding

A healthy tree can still be carrying dead weight.

Deadwooding is pruning that targets one thing: the dead branches inside and on top of the crown.

A tree can be green and healthy and still have a dozen of them.

Dead wood is brittle. It doesn’t bend in the wind, it snaps.

And it tends to come down over roofs, drives, decks and play areas at the worst possible moment.

Taking it out also cleans up how the tree looks and removes wood that pests and decay move into first.

What we look for

Signs a tree needs deadwooding

  • Bare branches in summer

Limbs with no leaves when the rest of the tree is full.

  • Bark falling away

Smooth grey wood showing where bark has dropped off.

  • Fungus on a limb

Shelf mushrooms or conks growing on branches.

  • Twigs and limbs on the lawn

A tree that keeps dropping wood is telling you something.

How we do it

From the bucket, the lift or the rope.

Deadwood is often high in the crown and out at the ends of limbs.

We reach it from a bucket truck, a spider lift or a climbing line, whichever fits the yard.

Each dead limb is cut back to living wood just outside the branch collar.

Bigger pieces are lowered on a rope rather than dropped onto what is below.

If most of the crown is dead, deadwooding isn’t enough, and we will tell you honestly when a tree is a removal instead.

Is deadwooding the same as trimming?

It is one kind of pruning. Trimming clears space; deadwooding takes out only the dead limbs.

How do I know if my tree is dead or just has dead limbs?

Call for a free estimate and we will look. If most of the crown is dead, it is usually a removal.

Can you get to limbs high over my house?

Yes. Bucket trucks and spider lifts reach high limbs, and pieces are lowered on ropes over roofs.
